What is Mentors for Youth?

Formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters, Mentors for Youth became a standalone agency in 2012 in order to concentrate time and resources in Dubois County. This entity has been serving kids in the community since 1987 and has helped match over 1,000 kids. We match children aged 6-14 with caring mentors aged 16 or older. Mentors spend a minimum of two hours, twice a month for at least a year, though on average our matches last much longer than that.

To be the difference, the change and the good in the lives of Dubois County children facing adversity

Mentoring by the Numbers

A study by MENTOR National found that children with a mentor are

55% more likely to enroll in college

81% more likely to participate in activities

78% more likely to volunteer in the community

46% less likely to use illegal drugs

Children with a mentor have reported better relationships with family and peers, increased self-esteem, making better choices, and developing better life skills. Mentors have reported a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment. Many expressed that they received as much benefit as their mentee.
