Invitation to Collaborate

We invite all alumni, friends, and partners of Lalo Aira Secondary School to join us in a critical effort to restore the school's tradition of excellence and service to our youth.

Background

After hearing urgent reports about the declining conditions at Lalo Aira Secondary School, LASS Alumine – Minnesota, USA, began exploring solutions to help restore the school. Moved by a sense of responsibility and a commitment to the community, the group initiated an assessment aimed at creating a sustainable path forward.

Preliminary Actions

Guided by Nahemei's principles of strategic planning, the Minnesota alumni group emphasized honest evaluation, resource mobilization, and effective delegation. They engaged Dr. Wakgari Duresss, a consultant and professor researcher based in Addis Ababa, to conduct a thorough assessment of the school's status. Working with school leaders and the Biridilla Synod, Dr. Wakgari identified key challenges and recommended specific actions.

Key Challenges Identified

• Infrastructure: The school's facilities and resources are inadequate, making it difficult to provide quality teaching and learning experiences.
• Staff Development: Limited opportunities for professional growth have resulted in low morale among teachers and frequent staff turnover.
• Community Engagement: The lack of active participation from parents and the community has made it harder for the school to address its challenges effectively.

Proposed Solutions and Vision

The assessment report offers concrete recommendations to address these issues:

• Invest in Professional Development: Provide ongoing, practical training opportunities for educators and administrators to improve the quality of education.
• Upgrade Infrastructure: Prioritize immediate improvements to classrooms and sanitation to create a more supportive learning environment.
• Strengthen Community Engagement: Foster stronger partnerships with parents and local stakeholders to build accountability and increase available resources.
