Yanawana Herbolarios is a Multi-Indigenous, 2Spirit, and queer-run 501(c)3 nonprofit. Our headquarters is located in San Antonio, TX, in the territory of the Yanaguana-Somi S'ek, of Coahuiltecan, and Jumanos tribes/nations. We serve working-class and strategically undervalued communities with a focus on Indigenous communities at the intersection of Black, Racialized, 2SLGBTQ+, sex work, and houselessness.

We were established in 2016, with the intent to build vigorous health, autonomy, sustainability, and sovereignty in our community through the sharing and revitalization of our Indigenous ancestral practices.

We seek to rebuild resilient village communities that collectively care for one another and are rooted in Indigenous values and practices such as restorative justice and community care.

Our goals include:

- promoting the importance of Indigenous-managed natural spaces and sharing Indigenous land management practices

- making Indigenous medicine practices accessible and sharing Indigenous plant food and medicine teachings

- practicing Indigenous restorative justice and community care practices

- providing culturally-sensitive botanically-integrative harm-reduction-focused mobile community healthcare

About The People’s Clinic

The People’s Clinic

The People's Clinic is a culturally sensitive, botanically-integrative, harm-reduction-focused mobile clinic operating in strategically undervalued communities. Our services include Herbal integrative wound care, Indigenous healing practices, Flower Essence therapy, Bioregional Clinical herbalism (preventative healthcare, womxn’s health, Covid, etc.), mental healthcare offerings, Lincoln detox protocol (ear seeds), syringe disposal, safe use/safe sex kits distribution, Narcan training and distribution, needs items distribution (such as hygiene, socks), and seasonal items (tents, sleeping bags, etc.). The People's Clinic operates weekly in San Antonio, TX, and St. Paul, Minnesota. During the summer, The People's Clinic provides clinical services in Dine' territory in the Arizona area. Through our clinics, we distribute thousands of meals and kits, along with providing culturally supportive healthcare services to hundreds of community members.

About Sowing La Futura

Sowing La Futura reconnects participating community members with skills of self-sufficiency that foster a deep relationship with the land and community. Workshops range from land management to harm reduction to Herbalism, to wilderness skills, and more. Current Sowing La Futura programming includes:

Indigenous Harm Reduction

When we think of harm reduction, the first things that usually come to mind are needle exchange and Narcan distribution. But harm reduction is more than that. Harm reduction is Community relationships. Harm reduction is community support. Harm reduction is addressing biases, seeking education, and learning how to be an advocate.

Our Indigenous Harm Reduction program is a series of trainings covering a variety of harm reduction-related topics such as prohibition, racism, toxic drug poisonings (overdoses/overamping), historical relationships to substances for Indigenous peoples, learning how to support people in active use, building supportive communities, Dr. Shakur protocol training, and more. This program has been adapted for youth, mutual aid groups, nonprofit organizations, and professional houseless outreach organizations and entities. We have adapted portions of the program into educational posts that we share through social media platforms monthly. We have given about 6-8 trainings each year since the start of the program (we are in its third year). Our trainings are free to community members through hosting organizations. Participants of this program are largely Indigenous, Black, and Mexican community members and organizational professionals working with communities using substances/at risk of using substances. This is an ongoing program.

Thrivalism 101

First Aid, Herbalism, Wilderness Survival, and Land Management. The core subjects of Thrivalism 101, a weekly class curated especially for our local Unhoused community and hosted by Corazon Ministries. This class focuses on teaching foundational skills meant to empower our most vulnerable community members, handing them the skills needed to comfortably survive outdoor environments. Class topics include:

Wilderness First Aid: wound care, diabetes management, musculoskeletal injuries, animal bites, gunshots, knive wounds, etc.
Basic Herbalism: basic medicine making, basic herbal medicine concepts, local materia medica, etc
Foraging and Land Stewardship: plant identification, Indigenous land management concepts, building personal relationships with the natural world around us, etc
Outdoor survival skills: knot-tying, building shelter, safe fire building, water purification, off-grid energy, personal alarm system, etc

This class is also meant to teach/strengthen resilience and adaptability, utilizing tools that are easily accessible, commonly found, or that can be scavenged/foraged.
