SLT Annual Appeal 2023

As we move from fall to winter, I hope you have had a chance to enjoy the spectacular autumn days of color and warmth.

Sippican Lands Trust (SLT) has had a very busy year furthering our mission of land protection and preservation and encouraging the use of our properties for health, education, and appreciation of nature. We have held work parties to clear our trails, many walks on White Eagle cranberry bog, and have given programs on birds, mushrooms, and a series of five tidepool explorations at Brainard Marsh.

Collaboration is vital to the future success of the SLT. We have worked with the New Bedford Whaling Museum, the Marion Natural History Museum, The Community Center, Tabor Academy, Sippican Elementary School students and Eagle Scouts in the past year on programs and specific projects. We are working with other lands trusts in the area—Wareham, Mattapoisett, and Rochester—to share ideas and resources and to be more effective in our outreach in the tri-town area.

We are pleased to announce that our silent capital campaign to raise money for stewardship surpassed our goal and we have started building the Hoff parking lot on Route 6 to allow easier access to White Eagle through the Hoff property rather than very bumpy (!) Parlowtown Road. We are also finally building the Osprey Marsh Pavilion where we will hold events and have shelter for programs and gatherings.

Thanks again to the Marion Golf Club for generously donating the scenic and historic golf course for our fundraising tournament in October. Our Poker Paddle in August was also well attended as kayaks, canoes and paddle boards visited our properties in the harbor by water on a beautiful August evening.

Please join us for one of our programs or walks which you can find on our website or on givebutter.com. We welcome volunteers to our work parties and for helping with special events. Please contact info@sippicanlandstrust,org if you are interested in volunteering.

As always, we are extremely grateful for your ongoing support and help in caring for our 1,375 acres of open space and our native woodlands.
