Story
Join us Saturday, May 27th, at 11am, 12.30pm, or 2pm for a tour by Yogi Proctor, founder of the Paul McCobb Museum.
Paul McCobb popularized modular furniture with the introduction of his Planner Group line in 1949. It quickly became the best selling furniture line of the 1950’s decade— introducing “accessorized” furniture and “living-wall” concepts along the way.
McCobb leveraged his Planner Group template to introduce dozens of other furniture lines that catered to a variety of young homemakers in post-war America. Likewise, he created signature works with hundreds of manufacturers—pioneering the concept of the “collab” design as we know it today.
McCobb was four-time winner of MoMA’s seminal Good Design awards 1950 to 1954, and represented America in the Trienalle Milano of 1957, among many notable achievements.
Yogi Proctor is a long-time collector of McCobb’s Planner Group works. His singular collection was recently formed into the Paul McCobb Museum project. Housed in his mid-century home in the Silver Lake neighborhood of LA, the “living-museum” also includes an archive covering the entirety of Paul McCobb’s legacy.
For this LA Forum tour, Yogi has assembled a new installation of Planner Group scenes, in addition to premiering the museums first micro-exhibit—“The Fabrics of Paul McCobb: L Anton Maix”.
Space is limited to 18 people. Non-member tickets ($25) / Student tickets ($10)
