Yonsei Basketball Association celebrates 30 years!

"The experience of a lifetime!"

We've all heard this phrase for years but what does it truly mean? Unforeseen at the start of the Yonsei journey for many families was a series of small decisions, in some cases made decades ago, that would continue impact our lives in such a meaningful way today. With the benefit of hindsight, we now know that Yonsei has enriched our lives through the people we've met, through the experiences we've shared and most importantly through the friendships that have endured. Yonsei Basketball has changed the lives of the people involved, not only for the players but for also the parents, coaches and traveling friends and family members who are able to join on the trips, exhibition games and team gatherings.

If being a part of the Japanese American basketball community widens our social circle by forming early bonds with players and families, then Yonsei is the endless ripple effect of those circles that reverberates through all of us for the rest of our lives. While the homestay experience and basketball games are unique to the players, parents and families have a different yet similarly impactful and lasting journey to share.

As players through Yonsei, we've suddenly become friends with 12 boys or girls in middle school - which is not easy to do, and learned that Yonsei is more than basketball, and have established a newfound respect for our cultural heritage. As parents through Yonsei, we've met basketball teammates, golfing buddies, traveling partners, pickleball players, dance friends and formed poker night groups. To say that our lives are better and more fulfilled as a result of the Yonsei experience is an understatement.
