Wednesday, June 5th, we will be finishing up our zine against the transphobic/homophobic bills passed in and also creating a Youth OUtright pride banner to display at our Stonewall Picnic as well as all future Youth OUTrgith events!

We will making be making zines to inform youth of the bills passed in NC Legislature including

the ban on gender-affirming care for minors,
the parents bill of rights or "Dont Say Gay" bill that requires teachers K-12 to out their students (making it impossible to teach lgbt topics, harder to form GSA's, and an immediate call home if students ask to be called by their correct name and pronouns) and bans lgbtqia+ curriculum from K-4th grade,
and the ban on trans girls and young women in sports.

All of these bills are passed, and many students were not informed. Why is that?

Some things to think about for the zine are:

"why was this knowledge hidden from me?"

"what would change in my life is I could access puberty blockers and HRT?"
if you already have access to gender-affirming care because you were receiving care from your healthcare provider before August 2023, ask yourself "why is this care so important for me to continue to have?"

"how has the inability to talk about my gender and/or sexuality affected my school life?"

"why is my school not talking about these bills? "

"who in my state, county, town, or personal life needs to know why this is wrong? what should they do?"

"what actions can be taken by students to protest these hateful bills?"

"has homophobia and transphobia gotten worse in my life since these bills have passed?"

We will have handouts about the bills and student rights available at the program for more info, and as always per our group agreements, if there's something you don't know about, just ask! Knowledge is power!
