Starting Living Vines Mental Health Foundation was, for me, a leap of faith into a world I knew was deeply in need of support but whose impact I couldn’t fully grasp until I immersed myself in the work. I had seen how mental health issues and substance abuse silently tear through communities in Nigeria, leaving individuals, families, and entire communities struggling with challenges few were equipped to face.

I founded Living Vines because I felt compelled to create a safe haven—a place where people could seek healing, understanding, and support. My background in clinical psychology and experience working with trauma, addiction, and mental health made me aware of the incredible gaps in access to mental health services, especially in Nigeria. But stepping into this journey was more than a professional calling; it was a personal mission. I knew the statistics and stories, yet it wasn’t until I stood face-to-face with the individuals, the families, and even young students who were yearning for a place like Living Vines, that I understood the magnitude of what was at stake.

The road to establishing Living Vines was not without challenges. Building a foundation from scratch, especially in a field that carries so much stigma, meant countless hours of advocacy and working to break down cultural barriers. There were moments of uncertainty and doubt, times when I wondered if I would ever find the support or resources to grow this vision. But each time I saw lives change—a student sharing openly in one of our school programs, a family reconnecting, a young adult beginning to thrive again after a long battle with addiction—I knew Living Vines was exactly where I was meant to be.

One of the most transformative parts of this journey has been seeing our foundation create a community, a safe space where people are willing to be vulnerable and share their struggles. From therapists and volunteers to the brave individuals who seek our help, Living Vines has become a lifeline that didn’t just appear overnight. It came from resilience, faith, and the collective courage of everyone involved.

Looking back, I realize that Living Vines is about more than providing therapy or holding awareness programs. It’s about planting seeds of hope and building a foundation of trust in communities that, for too long, felt unheard and underserved. It’s about creating a legacy of care, acceptance, and understanding—a vision I now understand to be more powerful than I could have ever anticipated.

Each day, as we continue to educate, advocate, and support, I am reminded that Living Vines isn’t just a foundation—it’s a movement. It’s a promise that mental health and well-being are for everyone. And for me, it’s a dream realized and a journey that, one step at a time, is changing lives in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
