Hi, I'm Karli Fisher from Maryland! I am 16 years old and in 11th grade. I have been playing the viola for 7 years and am so excited to have the opportunity to attend the Lutheran Summer Music (LSM) program, a month-long music camp, in summer 2021. I am hoping to raise $2,000 to help fund my way to LSM, and would be so thankful if you can help!

I have attended my County's high school performing arts programs for orchestra and viola for the last three years and participate as often as possible in other music activities, like Youth Bells Choir and Youth Voice choir at my local Lutheran church, and local youth orchestras and other music activities. 2020 was an extremely difficult year to say the least. I miss terribly not having these activities, practicing, taking lessons, having classes, playing and performing in person with others. Next summer at LSM, I plan to study viola, sing in the choir, play handbells, and take music composition classes.

Music is a rich tradition in my family. My mom and dad were both raised in the Lutheran church, and my grandfather was a Lutheran Pastor and attended Lutheran schools and a Lutheran college. He had a beautiful voice and sang in a local quartet for many years. He was also talented in arranging music. My great grandfather was inducted into the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame with a Lifetime Achievement award. He taught himself to play the accordion and led a local band for many years, wrote original songs, and even recorded some of his music. My great grandfather also could play music by ear, which is a skill I share. My great uncle also played in and led the band and taught music for over 30 years to high school students

Lutheran Summer Music (LSM) is the nation’s premier faith-based music academy for high school students. In addition to advanced musical instruction and numerous performance opportunities, LSM students form an intentional community, living together for four weeks on a Lutheran college campus. Since 1981, this unique and immersive program has guided the lives of young musicians who credit LSM as the starting place for their future careers and vocations.

LSM was founded to celebrate and extend the rich musical heritage of the Lutheran church. Our founders believed that by providing high-quality training and performance opportunities to young musicians they could cultivate a lifelong love of classical and sacred music, thus preserving these art forms for generations to come.
