Help Save Zuzu
Zuzu was dumped at just three weeks old at a construction site. Since coming into rescue, he has been thriving and growing into the sweetest, happiest little puppy.
Last week, Zuzu went in for his first round of vaccinations. At first, he was just tired which we expected. But five days later, everything took a horrific turn.
Zuzu began vomiting and developed severe, bloody diarrhea. His gums turned white. He collapsed. Suddenly, our healthy puppy was dying.
We rushed him to VEG while while my 17 year old daughter did chest compressions crying.
His prognosis was very poor. His blood pressure dropped to 70, and doctors struggled to even find a pulse. Watching a puppy crash like that the yelping, the gurgling, the cold body is something no rescuer ever wants to witness.
The doctors worked tirelessly and were able to stabilize him. Zuzu has now been hospitalized since Friday, and his medical bills have already exceeded $7,000. He has since been transferred to Mercy Veterinary Hospital because he is still not stable enough to come home.
The good news: Zuzu is fighting.
He’s eating on his own. He’s drinking on his own. He’s wagging his tail.
However, his gastrointestinal system has been severely affected. His tummy isn’t digesting food properly, causing fluid buildup, which is why he currently has an NG tube to help drain it. He is trending in the right direction, but releasing him too soon would be dangerous.
Zuzu has tested negative for Parvo three separate times. All fecal tests are negative. This is not parasites, Giardia, Coccidia, or Parvo. At this time, I Sasha truly believe this was a severe and rare reaction to his vaccines.
Zuzu is the sweetest little boy. He loves cuddling, splashing in water bowls, belly rubs, and spending time with his cat and small dog friends. We want nothing more than to bring him back to foster care but to do that safely, he needs continued hospitalization until he is truly ready.
Please help us continue to support Zuzu so he can heal, come home, and eventually be prepared for adoption. Every donation, share, and prayer makes a difference.
Thank you for supporting Zuzu and with rescue when we need you.
