A Tribute to Meghan

Meghan lived her entire life in the space between symptoms and answers.

From childhood, she faced complex and progressive medical challenges that never fully fit into a single diagnosis. Despite countless appointments, hospitalizations, procedures, and consultations, the “why” behind her suffering remained just out of reach. But what never wavered was Meghan’s determination to live fully, love deeply, and advocate fiercely for others walking the same uncertain path.

Meghan did not allow illness to define her. Lumos, her service dog, gave her independence and dignity while facing health challenges. Lumos was her teammate in navigating a world not built for bodies like hers.

Her journey was marked by extraordinary courage. She endured profound physical setbacks, severe weight loss, organ complications, and repeated hospitalizations with grace that many physicians never understood. Through it all, she remained the one encouraging others — reminding fellow patients that they were not alone. The validation she received from the UDN and those with the UDNF was a turning point for Meghan. She finally felt heard and understood.

For our family, the undiagnosed journey meant living in constant advocacy mode: researching late into the night, traveling for consultations, organizing records, asking hard questions, and holding hope when answers did not come. It meant balancing fear with faith, exhaustion with persistence, and grief with gratitude for each day she was still with them.

Meghan believed deeply in community. She knew that isolation is one of the heaviest burdens families facing rare and undiagnosed conditions carry. Organizations like the Undiagnosed Diseases Network Foundation represent more than research — they represent belonging, validation, and the promise that every story matters. Meghan’s legacy is one of resilience, compassion, and relentless hope. Her life reminds us that even without a name for the diagnosis, there is profound meaning in the fight for answers.
