Meet Dion

Dion Lewis has been incarcerated for 16 years. His daughter, Gianna, was just nine months old when he went to prison. Now she’s 16, a year away from graduating high school, already driving, and preparing for college. Though it’s been nearly ten years since they last saw each other in person, Dion has stayed in her life through phone calls, his mother’s visits, and a respectful co-parenting relationship with her mom. “My daughter loves me to death,” Dion says. “Even though we haven’t physically been around each other, it feels like we have.”

He says this upcoming Father-Daughter Dance will be the most important visit they’ve ever had. “I’ll get to look her in the eye and tell her what I need to tell her as a father. It’s going to be a big moment, something she can carry with her as she starts college.”
