Rebuilding Together After Hurricane Melissa: Support Local Farmers Starting in St. Mary, Jamaica.

We're Mark E. Walker and Katina Weaver Walker, owners of Oasis Palms Villa and Ireora Farms, located in the beautiful parish of St. Mary, Jamaica. After Hurricane Melissa devastated our community, we've received an outpouring of support from friends, family, and business associates. The first two questions everyone asked after the hurricane were, how are you and how can we help? Instead of focusing solely only on our personal needs, we've decided to come together and support our local farmers, in rebuilding and recovering.

The Impact of Hurricane Melissa:

The hurricane has left many local farms, including ours, with drastic damage and loss. With over 29,000 registered farmers in Jamaica, the agricultural sector is a vital part of our economy. By supporting our farmers, we're not only helping them rebuild their livelihoods but also contributing to the overall well-being of our community.

Your Donation Will Help:

- Plant seeds immediately to ensure a continuous harvest

- Support local farmers in rebuilding their farms and livelihoods

- Provide a sustainable source of food for the community which will further eliminate future food insecurities and drastic food inflations. 

Impact of Your Donation:

- $25 helps purchase seeds for a small plot, giving farmers a chance to start anew

- $100 supports a day of farm labor

- $500 helps purchase new equipment like tillers, water pumps, and hoses

- *$1000 and more helps purchase essential equipment like:

    - Greenhouse equipment, Portable solar generators, fencing and high-quality farm tools

We'll be documenting our progress on social media, sharing updates, photos, and videos of the rebuilding process, farm development, and harvests. You'll be able to track where your donations are going and see the tangible impact of your support over the next months and years.
