What happens to autistic youth on the brink of adulthood?

In the U.S., 1 in 36 children have autism—and millions of autistic young adults are grappling with what’s next. Most lose access to federally-funded school-supported services after high school or college. But then what?

This is where AUTURITY comes in. Established in 2023, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit is filling a gap in services as people with autism transition into adulthood. We hope to “Support the Awesome in Adult Autism” by connecting autistic people and their caregivers with key resources as they gain independence.

AUTURITY supports autistic adults and youth as they enter adulthood. And, because autism affects the entire family, we do so through monthly social gatherings that are designed to be epic events for the entire family. While the themes vary from month to month, our "Autism Unity in the Community" social events are designed to empower families dealing with autism.

Earlier this month, our Autism Unity in the Community: Games, Grooves, and Guidance social event was a huge hit that supported and uplifted the Atlanta Public School community in Fulton County with:

Games – A social game of bingo for autistic people ages 14 and up, facilitated by paid volunteers.

Grooves – A fun Zumba fitness class for the siblings of autistic youth.

Guidance – An expert panel where parents and caregivers discussed transition services.

The celebratory event brought Fulton County families experiencing autism together—helping them foster connections and gain the resources they need to excel.
