I deeply resonate with and support the way Purpose Earth focuses on providing financial support for leading edge, innovative programs with significant potential positive impact. I've had experience in fundraising and grants that began at the age of 20 when I received an unsolicited unrestricted grant from the American Friends Service Committee. I used that to develop a model community development resource center using arts and crafts programs to support desegregation in Greenville, Mississippi where I was born and raised. Later I discovered that many funders like United Way focus on funding more established organizations instead of smaller "start-up" programs. As a specialist in people-centered community economic development focused on self-help, empowerment, and capacity-building, I immediately resonated deeply with the more purposeful way Purpose Earth makes grants to creative people and projects with creative solutions to our global challenges including climate and made my first small donation. Shortly afterwards when I learned about the Purpose Earth Champion program I began making a small monthly donation and I am grateful of course to assist with this campaign in any possible way.
