The Alpha Alpha Theta Omega Chapter (AATO) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will be honoring Black History by hosting a Virtual Spring Fling: Dances through the Decades. This free event will take place in 4 parts. On each Friday evening starting on February 26th from 6:00- 7:00 pm, on our ZOOM and social media platforms, the ladies will review the history of the Cake Walk, one of the first American dances created by African-Americans around the time of the Civil War. Each subsequent Friday evening, March 5th and March 12th, the ladies will demonstrate dances over the decades that originate from the Cake Walk such as the Charleston, Jitterbug and the Hustle.

The Virtual Spring Fling Saturday, March 20, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, brings it all together and will also be broadcasted via ZOOM and all AATO social media platforms.

Our Program Targets, The Arts and Women’s Health are excited to share with members of the community the cultural significance of the Cake Walk and teaching younger generations where many of the dances done over the decades originate. This will also be a great opportunity to get the community up and moving in the safety of their homes during the pandemic.

These sessions and the Virtual Spring Fling are open to the public virtually and are free. We do encourage all attendees to donate so that we can continue to bring programs and services to the North Hillsborough and Pasco County areas. For additional information, please visit www.aatoaka.com
