In rural communities hospitals and trauma centers are often many miles away. Paramedics must stabilize critically ill patients and manage complex emergencies during longer transports, requiring advanced field care when every second counts.

Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) is an advanced airway procedure used when critically ill or injured patients cannot breathe on their own. Using specialized medications and equipment, EMS teams can safely place a breathing tube and connect the patient to a ventilator. This is delivering hospital-level airway care directly in the field.

With community support, Sand Lake Ambulance aims to become the first EMS agency in Rensselaer County capable of providing RSI.
