Clubs run weekly at Garfield Middle School, right on campus, about an hour at a time. A kid signs up through the school and shows up to try something they have never done before. Mural one semester, poetry the next, whatever we are running. The craft changes. The arc does not: learn about it, practice it, design something, then make it real.

Most of the kids we work with have never been asked what they are good at. Clubs is where they find out. It is also, for a lot of them, the first place in a long time that felt safe enough to try something and be bad at it for a few weeks.

That is the point. Before a kid can ask "who am I" or "what do I have to offer," they have to know they belong somewhere. Clubs is where that starts, and everything else we do runs through it.
