The Challenge, Now and for the Future…
On April 6, 2024, the Ames Izaak Walton League was forced to cease all trap shooting activities due to a lawsuit supporting expansion of residential housing development. This immediately impacted hundreds of youth trap shooters by denying them their home practice fields,and placing the future of their teams in doubt. Chief among these groups is the Gilbert Shooting Club, but several other schools and universities were likewise affected.
The Ankeny Jaguars Shooting Sports currently practices trap at the Ankeny Izaak Walton League While we value our longstanding partnership with the Ikes, the team does not have a dedicated range to practice skeet.

The Opportunity…
Our goal is to work with the Gilbert Shooting Club to build new combo trap & skeet fields at the Hill Farm Range near Ellsworth, Iowa. This range expansion focused on youth trap and skeet shooting will allow some of the high school shooting clubs affected by the Ames Izaak Walton League closure to have a new home. For the Ankeny Jaguars Shooting Sports, the new range will allow us to have a dedicated skeet practice facility, as well as additional trap space on a guaranteed schedule. This would provide the team with some much needed room to grow, in addition to expanding our roster of competition events.

The Ask…
With your support, we can secure the future of scholastic trap shooting for Ankeny youth. The project design is complete. The hope is to break ground later this summer. In order for this project to become a reality, all the teams involved must raise a combined $250,000. The Ankeny Jaguars Shooting Sports team has committed to raising at least $50,000 towards the overall goal.

THE IMPACT...

Shooting sports is a tremendous opportunity for yourth athletes that can enrich lives. The proposed range development will secure a facility for hundreds of youth shooting athletes from multiple clubs in Iowa. Over the lifespan of this project, we believe thousands of youth shooters will practice, compete and build memories at this range.
