Many of you know that in 2013, after several years in tech and wanting to build something meaningful and interesting of my own, I started working on a side project.
It began as a curiosity – a data project that hoped to find all the upcoming performances of the Brahms double concerto, a piece I had recently started listening to at the time and which I found mesmerizing.
Over the years, it evolved into a much broader project that focused on building awareness of classical and contemporary performances in the Seattle area, with a focus on free performances and concerts where younger people are explicitly welcomed.
More than a decade later, the Live Music Project has expanded beyond Seattle to communities across the US and internationally, with a concert calendar where performing arts organizations can list their events for free, and (soon!) a return to our ticket donation program, Spontaneous Free Tickets. We do all of this with a lean staff and weekly volunteer gatherings to update the concert calendar and maintain the technology we've built.
As a nonprofit, LMP relies on grant funding and community support to serve our wonderful community. Typical LMP expenses include maintaining the concert calendar and free ticket donation program; strategic leadership for programs and volunteer groups; and software infrastructure costs.
We welcome donations of any amount. Here's a sense of what your support can make happen for the music community:
$250 Concert listings for 1 month in 1 region
$55 Community email w/concert listings for an entire region
$25 Volunteer meetup to find new concerts to get word out about
I hope you'll join me in powering LMP's free programs for audience awareness and accessibility.
