In December, we raised over $4,000 to support the comuna Altos de Lidice's work. Under attack by U.S.-imposed sanctions, the comuna, based in Caracas, Venezuela, is reaching out again to ask for financial solidarity to support their work saving lives and building the socialist project in Venezuela. What is La Comuna de Altos de Lidice?

In the three years since La Comuna de Altos de Lidice (Caracas) was founded, it has provided tremendous community support, a lifeline not only of essential services such as food distribution, medical care, and services, but also of hope. The comuna fosters a basis for economic self-sufficiency, runs productive enterprises, a communal dining hall, medical offices, a pharmacy, and organizes various cultural and recreational activities. But, as a result of the economic blockade, many of these projects rely largely on international solidarity contributions, and the comuna is asking for financial support.

What do we, in the US, have to do with the comuna?

Why has the US led such an aggressive attack against Venezuela? The country represents a threat to the interests of US power; simply put, it places a concern for people ahead of a concern for profit. Venezuela’s comunes represent one such project, a seed of a future that centers the wellbeing of humanity. As activists in the centre of the belly of the beast, it is our duty to support comrades fighting against its effects and for sovereignty and the right to life and dignity.

"The following plan aims to be able to sustain the second half of 2021 in each of the main social and collective property enterprises of the commune, adding health as an extra because of its enormous importance, especially in the midst of the pandemic.

It is understandable that we wonder why support what should be a self-sustainable enterprise, as it turns out that the Venezuelan economy is very complicated, the impact of the blockade and manipulation through the dollar greatly impacts the popular initiatives of production within the communities, such as ours. That is why this plan was born, which seeks support in various corners of the world where there is hope, concrete solidarity and the will to contribute to a flagship project of the Bolivarian Venezuela as is the Commune, in this case the Socialist Commune Altos de Lídice which is heading to its 3 years of creation this coming June 3.

Socially Owned Recycling Company 5th Objective

For this company to continue its work for the rest of 2021 it needs a contribution of $750.
This is broken down into the payment of the collectors' salaries, new uniforms and some work tools.

Cacique Guaicaipuro Cargo Transportation Company Social Property.

This company that guarantees the transportation of domestic gas for our homes and the mobilization of foodstuffs requires an investment of $800.
The required investment is destined to reactivate one of the trucks that is damaged and to keep the only active truck in operation for the moment.

Ezequiel Zamora Food Distribution Company Social Property.

This productive initiative, mainly made up of women, needs $580 to guarantee its operations for the rest of the year. It is the company in charge of finding food at the lowest cost in the market to be distributed in the Commune. Composed mainly by women, this contribution would serve to be able to buy food and also guarantee the stable income of these warrior working mothers.

Ernesto Che Guevara Social Property Maintenance Company.

Men and women who keep the community clean, every street, every alley, is traveled by them who with their brooms do not leave a trace of dirt in their path, tremendous workers. In order to maintain a living wage until the end of this year and to have new uniforms, the company needs $400. It is the only company that does not generate more productivity than what is collected by the Commune Bank through the Savings Fund of the families, which devalues very fast due to the impact of the dollar to our deteriorated economy.

Communal Health System.

The Pandemic has made it clear who are the real heroes and heroines of this planet. Among them are obviously the medical staff of each hospital, of each health center, but even more so those who are inside the neighborhood fighting the fight. Facing Covid face to face daily requires not only vocation, but also the certainty that when you get home your family can have a plate of food, for this the Community Health System of our Commune needs a solidary and humanitarian contribution of $ 990. It is one of the most important systems that our Commune has, to guarantee its continuity is literally vital for all the families that reside in the Commune Altos de Lídice.

In total, the sum of the contribution required for the endurance and the drive of the communal project arrived in June is of
3520$. For which the greatest possible sum of wills is required to achieve this goal.
