A few words from Alliance to Mobilize Our Resistance

The Alliance to Mobilize Our Resistance (AMOR) is fundraising for Sulayman, “Sol,” a Gambian father to an 11-year-old boy from Providence. AMOR has been working closely with Sol and his family since 2018. Sol was detained by ICE in late November 2018, and his wife became the sole source of income for herself and her son during his detainment and deportation to Gambia on March 20, 2019.

Multiple years after his deportation and long journey with the legal system, Sol finally got the opportunity to return home. Almost three years to the day of his deportation, Sol will have his interview at the National Visa Center on March 2, 2022, bringing him one step closer to coming home to his loving family.

Now, Sol and his wife are attempting to begin the process of getting Sol back to the United States to reunite with his family. Sol’s absence has made an economic impact on the family and a psychological one for his young son, who he has not seen since he was 8-years old. Sol is a hard worker who has expressed that all he wants is to “[come] back to better his future and be with [his] family again.”

AMOR is seeking to support Sol in reuniting with his family and his wife in day-to-day expenses.

The fundraiser amount would go towards the following:

→ legal fees for submitting documentation and waiver forms for Sol’s return

→ travel cost from Gambia to Senegal, where the interview will take place at the National Visa Center

→ costs for plane tickets from Gambia to United States (when the return process is approved

The AMOR Alliance was formed in 2017 and is made up of five grassroots organizations: Providence Youth Student Movement, Direct Action for Rights & Equality, The FANG Collective, Colectivo Sin Fronteras, and Ocean State Advocacy.

The AMOR Support Line (401-675-1414), launched on Valentine’s Day 2018, organizes community-led actions and support in response to immigration abuse, police brutality, and hate crimes.

When someone calls the support line, we coordinate an appropriate response which can be in the form of legal support, mental health support, community response(s), as well as transportation and/or interpretation.
