Arlington Wetlands Boardwalk, Access, and Habitat Improvements
Arlington Wetlands in Pontoon Beach, Illinois (Madison County) is a public stormwater park that features wetlands, sand prairies, and forests. Arlington Wetlands was established in 2012 and features a floating boardwalk over the marsh that lets visitors get close to the unique water birds that call Arlington home. Some of the birds include black-crowned night herons, great egrets, great blue herons, little blue herons, and mute swans.
In 2024, the boardwalk became loose and in need of repair. The railings also need replacement and repair. The gravel path from the parking area to the boardwalk needs new gravel. The prairie, wetland, and woods also require habitat care, including removing invasive species, adding a greater diversity of plants to the wetland to support wildlife, and general clean up and maintenance.
Funds will support the improvements and implementation costs.
