After retiring from the Air Force with 20 years of service, I was looking for something new—something that could challenge me, connect me with others, and maybe even make people laugh. That’s when I found the Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) and their 6-week Stand-Up Comedy Bootcamp. I had always been curious about comedy, but I never imagined how transformational this experience would be. Through the bootcamp, I didn’t just learn how to write and deliver a solid set—I found community. I made a couple of my closest friends in that class, and I became part of a network of veterans, military family members, and supporters who are using the arts to heal, connect, and grow. ASAP has given me more than just laughs. It’s given me purpose after the military. I now help teach and mentor others going through the program, and every time I see someone find their voice on stage, I’m reminded why this work matters. It’s not just about comedy—it’s about confidence, community, and connection. I’m trying to raise $1,000 to help keep programs like these going. That money helps ASAP offer classes for free to other veterans, service members, and military family members—people like me, who are looking for a way to express themselves, find healing, and maybe even discover a hidden talent.
