Dear friends,

We are tooting our own horn a bit.  2025 was a pretty good year and we are pleased to share some of our successes.

We think Athens Food Rescue is having a positive impact in our area.  Our accomplishments are only possible due to the enthusiasm and hard work of lots of people, including you, our members and partners.

 

In our 10th anniversary year, our non-profit organization collected more than 46,000 pounds of food, taking it to area food pantries and meal providers. Since starting in 2015, AFR has recovered more than 385,000 pounds of milk, bread, produce and other provisions. These contributions put food onto tables and keep it out of a landfill.

 

We have successfully initiated a corporate sponsorship program to generate new income.  With additional funding, we have for the first time been able to hire an executive director, Teresa Curtiss.  As one of AFR’s founders, Teresa is the perfect person to lead us in this time of great need.

 

The demand is increasing at area food kitchens and pantries.  Our 15 food agency recipients tell us that more and more of our neighbors are coming in for meals and groceries.

 

Athens Food Rescue has grown to 17 active volunteers.  Three have joined us just recently.  We pick up food five days a week and have recently added a new donor.  (We are always on the lookout for new donors.)
