Some dogs find their way to us and steal our hearts in an instant. Atticus is one of those dogs.

This sweet, bouncy 9-month-old husky/malamute mix — who looks like the most adorable little coyote you've ever seen — was pulled from a shelter by our team at Loves Legacy Rescue. From the moment he came into our care, we knew he was something special.

But something wasn't right from the start. He was lethargic, low energy, not himself. A trip to the vet gave us answers we weren't expecting: pneumonia. We dove in headfirst — as we always do. We nursed him, monitored him closely, and gave him everything he needed. And for a few beautiful days, we got to meet the real Atticus.

He was everything. Bouncy, goofy, cuddly, full of life. He wanted to play nonstop and then curl up in your lap the moment he got tired. He was the happiest, silliest puppy — and it felt like we had turned a corner.

Then, overnight, everything changed.

Atticus took a sudden and severe turn for the worse. He is now in the ICU at an emergency veterinary hospital, on oxygen, fighting for his life. His lungs are badly damaged, and the medical team is working around the clock to give him a chance.

The bills have already surpassed $10,000 — and the care he needs isn't over.

At Loves Legacy Rescue, we made a promise when we pulled Atticus from that shelter: we would not give up on him. He fought through pneumonia once. He showed us exactly who he is — and who he is, is a dog worth every fight.
