At Lightwork Basketball, we believe the court is more than just a game — it’s a classroom, a sanctuary, and a launchpad for young girls to become confident leaders in their communities.

Every Saturday on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, girls ages 7–15 come together not just to play basketball, but to build sisterhood, character, and purpose. Many of these girls face challenges beyond the hardwood: economic hardship, lack of mentorship, and limited safe spaces. That’s why Lightwork is here — to fill the gap with guidance, encouragement, and a little bit of grit.

Led by Coach Jason Stewart, a community volunteer, mentor, and career advisor at the Edgies Teen Center, Lightwork Basketball combines skills and drills with heart-to-heart discussions, personal growth workshops, and real-life lessons. We teach the fundamentals of the game — and of life.

But we can’t do it alone.

• Transportation assistance for families in need

• Special events like tournaments, awards, and guest speakers
