Meet Aphyna

Meet Emily Krause (A former dancer of A-WOL Dance Collective’s youth company the Aeros.)

“It brings me so much joy to talk about the time I spent there. The Aeros came into my life at a turning point. I was a freshman at an arts magnet high school focusing on dance studies and recently ended my gymnastics career. While looking for a place to put both my strength from gymnastics and my love of the artistry of dance, I heard A-WOL began a program for youth that provided professional level training and performance opportunities. I fell in love with aerial dance instantly but more importantly I fell in love with A-WOL. As a young woman it was inspiring to see a female run dance company full of strong empowered women. The Aeros inspired me to push my creativity and personal strength by maintaining a professional program that required maturity and developed my self-discipline at a young age. With the role models that surrounded me I learned how to be a strong collaborator, teacher, and dancer. I was given a taste of what working for a professional dance company was all about and that solidified my decision to continue my dance education at a university. After receiving my BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from California Institute of the Arts, I have danced and taught for dance companies such as DIAVOLO | Architecture in Motion, a highly athletic and acrobatic company based in Los Angeles, and for the Gabriella Foundation who provides dance education to underserved communities. Joining the Aeros continues to shape the choices I make to reach my career and life goals.“
