Anonymous Thanks Anthony! Today is Monday 7/28 and we completed the ride in Albany on Friday 7/12 in perfect weather. Two major hiccups interrupted our ride, one manmade, one God made. Riding on the canal trail on day 4, as we approached the outskirts of our overnight town, Canastota, CSX started to rip out the rail crossing we expected to ride across (on Beebe Bridge Road), right before our eyes! Had we been there minutes earlier, we could have ridden across the tracks. We had to go a few miles in the other direction, on roads, to detour around this disruption. Then on day 5, when we stopped early in our ride in the Verona Town Park for a water break, my phone blurted out that a tornado watch was in effect. The remnants of Hurricane Beryl were catching up to us, so time to pedal faster! When we reached Rome, a large T-storm was near, so we sought shelter in a gas station. That storm missed us, so we went back onto our bikes! Unfortunately, when we were riding on the east side of Utica, at about the 42-mile mark (on Dyke Road), phones notified us that our area was under a tornado warning, and the sky didn’t look good. So, with that information, we called it a day, for safety’s sake. SAG 1 picked us up and took us to the hotel in Herkimer. Except for a few additional mechanical/flat tire issues that we recovered from, the journey proceeded like clockwork. Was very enjoyed by all who made the ride!! Thanks to all!!! –Scott Saunders
