Pineview Park Bevis Ice Pond

When we said, "Please help support our beloved neighborhood ice pond!" we had no idea how supportive folks would be. We are just a few thousand short of making the tractor happen. Thank you to those who've donated so far, and we're excited to skate over the finish line with your support!

Since 1975, volunteers have created and maintained a public ice skating pond at Pineview Park every winter. In 2022, in recognition of the countless hours Bill Bevis spent maintaining the ice, the ice skating pond at Pineview Park was named the "Bill Bevis Ice Rink" by the City of Missoula. Volunteers use a small tractor with a snowblower, blade, and power broom to clear the ice each night and then apply water to freeze overnight, creating a smooth skating surface each morning. Weather permitting, the ice is open to the public until 9:00 pm Mon-Thurs, and until 10:00 pm Fri-Sun and holidays.

The tractor that ice rink volunteers use to maintain the rink, purchased in 1993, has been diagnosed with impending engine failure at any moment by tractor mechanics. It will cost $15,000 to replace the tractor. FMP is now accepting donations to replace the tractor to allow volunteers to continue to provide this wonderful community amenity. All proceeds go directly to maintenance and support of the Ice. Friends of Missoula Parks donates all administration fees for Pineview.
