The Peerless Rens Club is a historic community gathering place nestled in the heart of Eastport, Annapolis. Since 1948, generations have gathered here to stay connected to family and friends.

Descendants, extended family members, neighbors and friends have embarked on a huge undertaking to bring the essence of the club into the 21st century.

As one of the earliest and few historically Black and Black-owned social spaces in the Annapolis area, we are committed to doing everything we can to keep the building and its legacy alive.

Part of this transformation requires major restoration and upgrades of our backyard outdoor space. Our unique shed (built by original members and family members) needs to be cleared out and restored, and the backyard needs additional clearing, so we can best reconfigure (and renovate!) the space for use when the weather warms.

The Plan

Part I

Stabilize the roof (for safety of entry)
Clear Debris
Affix a weather-appropriate temporary roof
Landscaping: Clear dilapidated side enclosures and surrounding extraneous tree cover and flora

Part II

Deep clean and sanitize
Replace doors and locks
Replace windows
Restore/increase height of flooring
Restore electrical lighting
Replace side access/fencing enclosures

We have discussed our needs and vision with multiple, reputable licensed and bonded companies that are eager to be a part of our journey of revitalization. Unfortunately, our tiny yet mighty membership cannot manage the steep price on our own. We need YOU — other descendants, friends, colleagues, neighbors, allies/accomplices, businesses, strangers near and far — to help us usher in a new era of Peerless Rens!
