Why We Need a Modern - Day Whistle-stop Tour to Change Texas, Right Now

This is a unique moment in America where civil discourse has broken down. Since we’re not able to speak to each other about the most sensitive issues ripping through Texas families, we're going to sing about them! Our passionate team of Texas female musicians (and their toddlers) are giving up 2022 to get Beto O'Rourke elected Governor of Texas.

This “whistle stop” musical tour is modeled after 1938 campaigning where the candidate traveled by train or bus that pulled into small towns in Texas with a live music. Inspired by this, we have assembled a whimsical musical lineup of ol’ time Texas favorites plus original, thought-provoking political songs about current issues. We address responsible gun ownership, reproductive rights, education, immigration issues, renewable energy and the power grid story, as well as tell the current, true tale of the modern day Texan conservative female who is changing her mind based on extreme recent events. “I’m a native Texan who has always felt comfortable as a conservative Republican until this year. When Gov. Abbott passed the open carry, no training gun law, he made me re-think what I believe in. That just isn’t safe! So, I did something I’ve never done before. I voted in the Democratic primary for Beto O’Rourke.” said Kathy Eason. Babes in Betoland is made up of independent Texas women (not lifelong Democrats or radical activists) who are simply fed up that our current governor is stripping the rights from Texas women and attempting to write the template for the rest of the country.

The Babes’ Progress So Far

We have a full show ready to go! To attract attention with something original, we've converted a school bus into a traveling mobile stage. Picture a bright, breathtaking, rolling mural as a backdrop to our all-female storytelling band. The show is quirky and fun with a spirited sense of authentic Texas culture.

Nellie, Hannah, Laura and their daughters are hitting the road, and a handful of talented Texas musicians will appear on our mobile stage with us. Beto himself loves the Babes, and will continue to appear at the same events from time to time, while keeping our project independent. Nine-time Grammy Award winning musician Ray Benson, of Asleep at the Wheel, has produced one of the Babe’s original songs. In Addition, Warner Records also gave a recording and distribution package at no cost. The Babes will be releasing 6 original songs on all streaming services in early August.

Our Songs

Our songs cover Women’s Health, Gun Regulations, Care for Teachers, The Power Grid Story, Immigration, and Renewable Energy, among others.

The data show this election is actually winnable for Beto O’Rourke. Gov. Abbott’s lead over Beto continues to narrow and his approval ratings are at an all time low. It's also clear that this happens IF AND ONLY IF Texas women, especially moderate, suburban, and small-town mothers decide to engage.

We are so ready to take this show on the road. We need your help now, in the short time leading up to the November election.

We believe so strongly in this, we are giving up two full-time teaching jobs, as well as a successful art career. We respectfully request funding help to help cover the cost of spreading the message to rural Texans; with a focus on women.

Impact

We want as many Texans as possible to hear the message that Beto will be a great governor and that Abbott has to go! The more we raise, the more thought-provoking, needle-moving shows we can provide! We are beyond grateful for every single dollar that comes in to support this project, and we are putting our full hearts into it! Our goal is to make your contribution have a huge impact and change the course of Texas politics so it is safe again for everyone, especially women, children, immigrants and the LGBTQ community!
