Rules and FAQs
What is the tournament format?
-The tournament will consist of a timed round robin, depending on the number of teams you may not play every single team. Each round will be 10 minutes, or until a team has reached 21, whichever comes first. The score of 21 must be reached at the end of the inning, giving your opponent a chance to cancel out your points.
You will hear a sound that marks the start and the end of the round. After each round is completed, you must report your scores to the score booth. Any bags thrown after the round alarm has sounded, will not count towards points. You may not start playing until the ten minute timer has begun.
After the round robin, we will have a single elimination tournament containing the top teams within each bracket. The top teams will be based on wins in the round robin. If teams are tied, the recorded points will be the tie breaker to determine who goes onto the final tournament.
How will scoring be handled?
-We will be using Points Calculation Scoring.
Points Calculation: The team with the higher score in an inning earns the difference in points. For instance, if Team A scores 5 points and Team B scores 2 points in an inning, Team A earns 3 points for that inning.
What are the point values?
Bag In-The-Count (Woody): Any bag which comes to rest anywhere on top of the board. Each is worth one (1) point.
Bag In-The-Hole (Cornhole): Any bag which is thrown through the hole or knocked through the hole by another bag. Each is worth three (3) points.
Dead Bags: Refers to any bag that contacted the ground before coming to rest on the board or any bag that struck a previously defined object such as a tree limb, wire, indoor court ceiling, etc. Each is worth zero (0) points.
What if a bag is touching both the board and the ground?
-A bag that is touching the ground and the board will result in 0 points. If a bag is hanging off of the board but is not touching the ground, then it is 1 point.
How can the bags be thrown?
-All bags must be tossed underhand.
What is the size of a team?
-Competitive bracket is 2 per team
-Recreation bracket can have 2-3 per team. The 3rd person is an alternate sub and may sub in at the beginning of a round- but not after a game has already started.
