ABOUT THE PLAY:

The Ballad of Keith King is a high-energy, comedic poetry play following KEITH, a boy grappling with a rare undiagnosable brain infection. As his condition worsens, his peculiar symptoms of rhyming and heightening circumstances increase, his relationships with his classmates, his parents and even the school bully (with whom he has a monogamous bully/nerd relationship) are jeopardized, and his grip on reality unravels. Through this play, Keith and the audience are forced to question what is real while confronting a deeper question: How are we supposed to treat sick people?

WHY NEW HAVEN?

This play was born out of a collection of poems by Kyle Prue (playwright) during his personal battle with a life-threatening case of tick borne illness (‘Tick Borne Relapsing Fever’). After a miraculous medical stint that saved his life, Kyle then adapted these poems into a full-length stage play.

With Connecticut being the epicenter of tick-borne illnesses and Yale being a leader in disease research, we believe New Haven would be the ideal community to develop and incubate this play as we scale to reaching audiences worldwide.
