WHO is this program for?

Dominican youth receive life-trajectory changing instruction & services from our highly qualified, 100% Dominican staff (former professional baseball players, certified strength trainers, experienced teachers, doctors & dentists).

WHAT is The Baseball Island Foundation?

A unique program, the first of its kind in the Dominican Republic, built as a prototype for change. Our baseball, strength training, meals, clean drinking water, healthcare & dental, USA college prep & vocational training programs are completely free of charge & serve as incentives for Dominican youth to stay in school & take our supplemental English, math & technology classes.

WHERE is The Baseball Island Foundation?

Based in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic & servicing Dominican youth from 6 neighboring towns in the province (Sanchez, Portillo, Barbacoa, Limon, Juana Vicente & Samana).

WHY is this program important?

The Baseball Island Foundation was built to combat the #1 crisis in the international baseball world. Many have written articles, filmed documentaries & done interviews about the disconnect between baseball & education in the DR for the last 30 years... but, little action has been taken. We are now receiving overwhelming demand for our effective programs because of our unprecedented impact in our first 2 years. Over 120 boys and girls are on our waitlist!

WHEN did the program start?

Our year-round program has been open since September 2021. In our first two years, we have incentivized 48 Dominican youth to fully commit to education. Two of our "peloteros" turned student-athletes have signed MLB contracts, and 16 have earned USA college scholarships.

HOW is The Baseball Island supported?

Also unique in the DR, we do not participate in the traditional Dominican "buscone" system where coaches ask their players for money weekly & take a percentage of their signing bonus if they go pro.

Our program provides salaries for our staff & free programming for our student-athletes through the generous support of our local community, corporate sponsors, non-profit partners, MLB players, trips from USA college, high school and travel teams & in-kind donations. Recently, the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) funded a grant that sponsors our year-round meal program!

Founder & Program Director

Jay Quinn has taught & coached 100+ players who have made it to collegiate & pro baseball in the United States. He played NCAA Division I baseball at George Washington University (4 years). coached at Columbia University (6 years), contracted with MLB International (4 years), and was a New York City private school teacher (2 years). Jay has now committed his life to finding support for his new baseball family in the Dominican Republic.

Why is The Baseball Island FUNDRAISING currently?

Our recent connection with the MLBPA has led to a tidal wave of sustainable support opportunities! We are currently in conversation with top executives from USAID, the Peace Corps, CAA Sports Agency, CBS Morning Show, the Pedro Martinez Foundation & MLB team charities... just to name a few!

This is truly a dream come true... with one problem.

Most of our support has come from philanthropic international team trips to visit & donate to The Baseball Island Foundation. In the last few months, we've been hit with a perfect storm... Multiple fundraising events/team trips have been postponed until 2025 for reasons outside of our control.

Now, instead of being in a position where our everyday program is funded until mid-2025 and we have time to focus on securing sustainable support from our new connections, we are hustling to recover the funds that never came.
