Basin Arts will begin its 10th Year in 2025 with a transformative move to 126 South Buchanan Street, a 10,000 square foot warehouse being redeveloped as a dynamic new cultural arts facility in partnership with the Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority (LPTFA) Read more about the big move.

With this expansion, our ability to serve artists and the community also expands, The new space will offer:

Double the studio space for visual artists, an increase from 10 to 20 spaces!
A larger dance performance studio for movement classes and performances up to 75 people
A smaller dance studio with affordable rental rates to local movement artists and teachers
More art gallery exhibition space, providing more artists with space to show their work
A community art classroom available providing artists with an accessible way to lead classes for youth and adults
More gathering space for community-wide events and programs
Creative Placemaking activations throughout the LPTFA campus and the La Place neighborhood, providing more cultural connectivity to Downtown Lafayette

OUR STORY

Basin Arts was established in 2016 by Founder and Creative Director, Clare Cook in Lafayette, Louisiana. As a non-profit arts incubator, Basin Arts is a container for creativity focused on supporting Louisiana artists and creating meaningful relationships between artists and the greater community through collaboration.

We are dedicated to:

nurturing artistic innovation within a supportive environment
allowing artists to take risks and develop new skills
building a network of collaborators that guide the flow of creativity into the greater community

OUR IMPACT

Paid nearly $700,000 directly to local artists for creative work since 2016
Supported over 100 artists in residence including visual artists, dancers, and more
Engaged over 80 teaching artists for dance and visual arts classes
Hosted 65 exhibitions in our art gallery
Presented over 50 dance performances and community programs
Taught over 5000 youth and adults in our movement classes

OUR ARTISTS

Have earned Masters of Fine Arts from places like YALE, Columbia, Temple University, Vermont College of the Arts, Hollins University, and others, after time in residence at Basin Arts.
Are performing on Broadway, with national and international dance companies, and producing original dance work across the country
Have received numerous ArtSpark Grants, Louisiana Division of the Arts Funding, and other regional and national support for creative projects at Basin Arts
Are teaching dance and visual art for the Lafayette Parish School System and for youth programs in the area
Are professors with UL Lafayette's College of the Arts and beyond
Have exhibited artwork at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, the Hilliard Museum, and across the country
