Beautiful Beginnings Arts Collective (BBAC)

Beautiful Beginnings Arts Collective will continue the partnerships with Bayview SOL, Community Well and SF Community School (all in the Southeast of San Francisco) to offer free arts programming to the community. With a focus on cultural traditions from the African diaspora and folkloric art forms from Latin America, BBAC’s artists are committed to inspiring young people to use traditional forms as a springboard for innovation and expression.

  • BBAC and Community Well staff co-lead a Youth Leadership program together where stipended youth will attend workshops on: arts/community wellness, job readiness, communication.
  • In addition, Youth Leaders meet regularly with a BBAC artist mentor (apprentice model) to learn artistic skills.
  • The culmination of the project is a contingent in the SF Carnaval parade, the only contingent representing the Excelsior neighborhood.

Over the past few months, BBAC core members have been meeting to incubate our new Carnaval comparsa vision. We began with the ideas generated from our last year's Youth Leaders back in June and are so excited to present this year's 2024 BBAC contingent theme:metAMORphosisCheck out our website for more info about registration, rehearsals, costumes and more. Please consider donating towards youth costumes, art supplies and our Youth Leader program. We appreciate each of our donors and sponsors and invite you to come on this journey of transformation and LOVE with us, uplifting dances and rhythms from the African diaspora and centering our youth's destiny to soar.
