THE FOUNDERS' STORY

Originally a college athlete turned sales executive and father of two boys, Bobby Krause thrived on embracing life to the fullest. However, everything changed when a "nervous tick" began plaguing his left arm. Numerous doctor visits, MRI scans, and a crucial appointment with a neurologist in 2016 revealed a life-altering diagnosis: young onset Parkinson’s Disease at age 42.

THE JOURNEY

Following the diagnosis, the harmless tick escalated into a relentless, debilitating tremor that affected his entire left side. These tremors caused constant pain, embarrassment, and a profound decline in his quality of life. Everyday tasks became daunting, from conducting business meetings to coaching his son’s basketball games.

He questioned how he could continue like this.

In 2020, a ray of hope emerged with news of clinical trials for a groundbreaking tremor treatment known as Focused Ultrasound. Thanks to his families generous employer's medical benefits and the outstanding medical team at the University of Penn, he was scheduled for this life-changing therapy in June 2022.

THE TURNING POINT

June 9, 2022, is etched in his memory. As he traveled to the University of Penn for his Focused Ultrasound therapy, hope mingled with anxiety as his tremors intensified and his muscles tightened under the stress. Little did he know the profound impact the next two hours in the MRI tube would have on his life.

Being fully conscious on the MRI table felt surreal. He communicated with the medical staff in real time during the five sonication procedures that day. It was during the third sonication that something incredible happened: after nearly a decade of battling tremors, his body finally surrendered to stillness. The tremors ceased, his muscles relaxed, and the tension melted away. He could finally... Be Still!

THE DISCOVERY

He has been privileged to share his journey with tremor dominant Parkinson’s Disease and his transformative experience with Focused Ultrasound at esteemed venues like Capitol Hill and Princeton University, as well as within communities such as Rock Steady Boxing. These interactions have shown firsthand the hope his story inspires.

Yet, alongside this hope, he has encountered the stark reality of limited awareness, accessibility issues, and financial barriers that many face in accessing this treatment. It is these encounters with hopeful yet struggling individuals that sparked the creation of the Be Still Foundation.
