Almost immediately after she was adopted, Peanut started having health problems. Vets wouldn't listen and the shelter she came from was hard to reach because it was the height of COVID. By the time someone DID listen, Peanut was very unwell and soon headed in for surgery to remove a part of her intestines. 😔 But... there was an unexpected silver lining in her future!

A few years later, as we were creating Cuddly Do Right, we accidentally discovered one impact of her health scare and her recovery. Forced to be calm so she didn't bust stitches, as a puppy bursting with energy, Peanut developed a very gentle side. This came to light when she was given her first chance to be a mother - to kittens. From a mixed litter of seven, Frankie was her very first "favorite."

She looked at him like he was made of peanut butter and snuggly naps and she couldn't believe he was hers.

Since then, Peanut volunteers for Cuddly and has raised kittens almost constantly. We'll introduce you to others over time. We just wanted to start the story where it began: Frankie, the tiny boy who lit up a whole new world for a dog whose strongest instincts are to herd and to love and Peanut, who had no idea what was missing in her life until she found it, curling up next to her without fear (or permission!).

Truly, Peanut loves kittens. And YOU love kittens, obviously! So you already have this one huge thing in common. You should be her friend!

In honor of Peanut's 25th official kitten, we're creating the Peanut Gallery and asking you to join her effort to raise good, gentle, friendly and dog-friendly kitties. She's delighted to do all the work but she needs a bit of help affording the food, litter, toys, bedding, vaccinations, surgeries and more - most importantly (in her opinion), Greenies!

Dog-friendly kittens grow into dog-friendly cats and that opens up our kitties' adoption chances by adding millions of dog owners to the potential pool of applicants. How awesome is that? Who's a good girl? Peanut!

Your monthly donation, of any size, will help keep a steady flow of kittens healthy and happy while they wait to be adopted. And, as long as the kittens flow, it will help keep Peanut happy. When her kittens leave, she's a little like a slightly crazed empty-nester, looking for them everywhere. 😪 The next litter soothes her mommy soul.

Who could have guessed that the bond between a dog and her first kittens would give Peanut, whose life once hung in the balance, such a lovely (and often entertaining!) life's purpose?

There have been so many others, but Frankie will forever be the kitten who launched a wonderful career for Peanut, the former freeloader.
