Become a Mija for the Class of 2031 Today!

Our Mission

Circle de Luz radically empowers Latina girls through holistic programming, extensive mentorship, and scholarship funds for further education. We strive to reduce high-school dropout rates, increase post-secondary enrollment and workforce readiness, and boost the economic mobility of Latinas in Charlotte.

How We Work

Each year, Circle de Luz partners with a local Charlotte-Mecklenburg middle school to welcome a small cohort of seventh-grade students. These students and their families receive hands-on mentorship, resources, and support throughout their six years in the program. Upon graduating from high school, each student is guaranteed a $5,000 scholarship to pursue further education.

What is a Mija?

A Mija is a special type of donor who contributes to this $5,000 scholarship. Mijas can come from any background and be located anywhere in the world. By committing to a minimum contribution of $125 per year over the course of six years, a Mija plays a critical role in helping our students turn their aspirations into reality.

Our Mijas join Circle de Luz from all over the world and from diverse backgrounds. Men can become Mijas by donating in honor or memory of a woman in their lives. Additionally, families, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), academic clubs, and organizations can also sign up to be Mijas.

Your Pledge

By committing to a minimum contribution of $125 per year over the course of six years, a Mija plays a critical role in helping our students turn their aspirations into reality. Our commitment in supporting our hijas' pursuit of further education is made possible by our Mijas, and we hope to inspire you to become a Mija, too.

Important Notes

1. For each annual financial contribution, 20% will go towards the administrative costs of the scholarship fund and the remainder of the commitment will go directly to the scholarship fund for your class you are pledging to.
2. Donations to the Mija Giving Circle help fund scholarships for Circle de Luz students. Any surplus is retained in our scholarship fund to continue advancing post-secondary success for future cohorts.
