Story
For more than seven years, The Greylock Glass has offered in-depth reporting on a wide range of issues of concern to readers. While our coverage of light topics, such as Food or Arts & Culture is popular, we have been proud to bring you information about complex subjects that require significant investments of time and resources, such as justice or poverty.
We are getting ready to launch the Berkshires Climate Resiliency Report, a long-term project focusing on local systems that will be profoundly impacted by even modest disruptions projected to arise due to climate change.
The Berkshires is unique in that it is not yet as visibly affected by climate change as other parts of the country. The lush, rural New England landscape can be misleading however, and the balance of human activity and natural resources is fragile. The climate crisis will attract climate refugees from nearby urban areas seeking the safety of the Berkshires.
Without proper planning, this exodus threatens to destabilize local systems in ways that will dwarf the strain placed on the region during the pandemic—housing, health care, education, and more.
To do this right, we need your help.
If you believe that local journalism must play a greater role on the issue, please donate to the Berkshires Climate Resiliency Report via Local Media Foundation. Contributions to this fund will help pay for the news resources needed to dig deep on issues affecting our local environment, economy, and community.
