WHO WE ARE

Code2College is on a mission to dramatically increase the number of minority and low-income students who enter and excel in STEM undergraduate majors and careers. Our free program model tackles three of the most common barriers to entry that underserved students face when looking to enter the STEM field: education, exposure and experience. Code2College addresses these barriers by providing high school students with virtual coding classes, offering professional development workshops, and placing these students into paid, technical internships at some of the biggest tech companies in the world - all before they set foot on a college campus.

OUR IMPACT

From its inception just six years ago, Code2College has humbly served nearly 2500 students. Over 250 of those students have been placed into paid, career-defining internships in Software Engineering, Mobile App Development, Embedded Systems, IT, and many more.

Of the students we serve, 76% are proudly Black and Latine identifying, and over half are women and/or economically disadvantaged, with 40% being first generation college students. The majority of these students go on to pursue undergraduate STEM majors and successful technical careers upon completion of their Code2College courses.

In 2020, we took this impact a step further by prioritizing the portion of our population most at-risk for program attrition: our Black and Latina girls. Due to our pivot to virtual programming in the face of COVID-19, many of these girls would face both barriers to access (e.g. lack of high-speed internet and digital devices at home) and psychosocial challenges (e.g. imposter syndrome, low perceived representation within our program.

Vision 2024 has provided outsized mentorship, access to technical curriculum, professional development, college access and career development for scores of young women. Our Vision 2024 Legacies (the young women in the program) have interned as Software Engineers and Developers at the likes of Microsoft, Indeed and Atlassian, and have started their college experiences in competitve programs including Yale, Cornell, UT Austin and Stanford.

ANNE-MARIE'S STORY

Anne-Marie began Code2College when she was 17 having never written a line of code before.

After only one semester in Code2College, she successfully led her all-girl team to win second place at Code2College Demo Day, secured a $1,500 college scholarship from Google as well as an offer to become the first high school software engineering intern with athenaHealth.

Anne-Marie completed her eight-week summer project in a mere three weeks and earned a return offer for the following Summer.

Since she first began with Code2College and participated in the Vision 2024 Initiative, Anne-Marie has held not one, or two, but FOUR software engineering internships across athenaHealth, Apple and Microsoft.

Today, Anne-Marie has multiple full-time software engineering offers and will graduate from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Computer Science and Environmental Engineering.

Anne-Marie is just one of two hundred young women who are experiencing life-changing impact through Code2College.

We pioneered high school technical internships and will scale to our biggest impact to date this Summer.

We're raising $75,000 to place 100 more girls into paid, Summer internships in Tech this Summer 2024.
