Our Mission

Bike4Alz is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s Disease through a summer-long, cross-country trek. Our journey encompasses biking, organizing fundraising events, and engaging communities to educate them about Alzheimer’s. In every town we visit, we aim to make a meaningful impact by hosting events, sharing personal stories, volunteering at local senior living facilities, and building lasting friendships.

Our Journey

Each summer, our team embarks on a 3,600-mile bike ride from coast to coast. Along the way, we participate in various fundraising activities and community events, ensuring that our presence leaves a lasting impression. Our distinctive tight jerseys and well-defined tan lines make us recognizable, sparking conversations about our cause. Staying in local homes each night allows us to connect deeply with the communities we traverse, reinforcing our commitment to those affected by Alzheimer’s Disease.

How We Started

Bike4Alz was founded in the summer of 2010 by Tyler Jury, who was profoundly affected by the loss of his grandfather, Barret Cummings, to Alzheimer’s Disease. Inspired by his personal loss, Tyler and five of his fraternity brothers set out to cross the country on bikes to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research. Despite initial challenges, their dedication paid off. After 18 months of preparation, the team completed their first nine-week trek from San Diego to Yorktown, raising nearly $60,000 and laying the foundation for future rides.

Over fourteen years and twelve treks, Bike4Alz has biked almost 40,000 miles and raised over $675,000 for Alzheimer’s research. However, our mission continues, as Alzheimer’s remains the sixth leading cause of death in America. Every mile we pedal honors those affected by this devastating disease.

This summer marks our thirteenth cross-country trek, starting in San Francisco, CA, and concluding in Virginia Beach, VA. Throughout our journey, we host events in each community to highlight the profound impact of Alzheimer’s Disease. While our team members may change each year, our mission remains steadfast: to reach more people and make a greater difference with every mile.
