What is Bike/Walk Summerville?

Bike/Walk Summerville is a volunteer-led 501c3 nonprofit hat represents the bicycle and pedestrian community within the Summerville region

Our organization serves to create a safe, accessible, and economically vibrant Summerville, SC by promoting active transportation, such as biking, walking or rolling within the greater Summerville area, including Dorchester and Berkeley County.

We believe that by allowing more options to travel, we can reduce traffic congestion and preserve the small town feeling of summerville without stifling our local economy.

In 2023, our organization advocated in so many ways for bicycle and pedestrian issues, including:

Regular Interviews with news outlets raising awareness for these issues within the Berkeley and Dorchester County, Town of Summerville areas. (Live 5 News and the Summerville Journal Scene)
We launched the Farmer's Market Slow Roll, an inclusive, all-ages group ride to the Town of Summerville Farmer's Market, with 81 riders in our first season!
Hosted the first Ride of Silence in Summerville since 2014, with 51 riders in total including some of our Dorchester County/Town of Summerville Councilmembers!
Mobilizing the community to attend multiple Town of Summerville and Dorchester County public comment opportunities, such as the Dorchester County Complete Streets Workshop.
Educating local residents through our Bike Booth at Third Thursdays and other events.

With projects like these, we are making ourselves visible, having your voice heard, and raising awareness for our cause!

What we can accomplish with your Donation

In 2024, we need your help to elevate our organization into the advocacy group Summerville needs to represent our bicycle/pedestrian community.

With your donation, we can increase turnout at once-in-a-generation public comment opportunities by using targeted advertising platforms to make sure our community knows that these events are taking place!

We'll keep our ears to the ground so you won't have to!

We can also increase ridership and awareness of our Farmer's Market Slow Roll, creating a safe and welcoming space for casual cyclists of all ages (and abilities) to participate in the Town of Summerville's Farmer's Market!

More riders means greater visibility and proof that our community needs infrastructure.

We can expand the Bike Booth to educate and inform residents about the problems facing our community, how we can solve them together, as well as the latest news in our town!

Who we Represent

First and foremost, we represent everyone in order to make our streets safe all, including:

Bicyclists and pedestrians
Individuals and seniors with extra mobility needs
Families with children
Our unhoused population who rely on biking and walking for transport
Drivers who do not wish to harm those who ride and walk our Flowertown in the Pines

We do not seek to blame individuals who walk, bike, or drive, but rather bringing the community together in order to have our voice heard and prevent tragedies from happening in the first place.
