Birdie’s Fight to Feel Better

Birdie’s journey with us started with an emergency.

On March 27th, she arrived on transport already very sick—experiencing severe dehydration, inflammation, and constant bloody diarrhea. She was rushed straight to the ER, where she was immediately hospitalized.

While we got some initial relief that her parvo test came back negative, the reality was still incredibly scary. Birdie was having episodes of diarrhea every hour, wasn’t eating, and we didn’t know what was causing her condition.

Over the next couple of days, she remained hospitalized while the veterinary team worked to stabilize her.

• Additional testing ruled out heartworm and tick-borne diseases

• X-rays showed no major abnormalities, but did reveal something heartbreaking—a shotgun pellet lodged in her body

• She struggled with appetite and continued GI issues as they worked to find the right treatment

By March 29th, we finally got the update we had been hoping for—Birdie started eating, regained some energy, and was ready for discharge 💛

While we are so grateful she’s improving, her emergency hospitalization and diagnostics came at a time when our funds are already stretched thin.

We said “yes” to Birdie when she needed us most. Now we’re asking for help to cover the cost of her lifesaving care so we can continue to say yes to dogs like her.
