Vashon Family Feast Fundraiser

Make a real difference for the Vashon teachers and students in our community by donating to our Vashon Family Feast Fundraiser. This fundraiser helps cover the costs of special mid-year expenses requested by staff and students at Chautauqua Elementary School, McMurray Middle School, Vashon High School, and the Vashon FamilyLink and StudentLink Alternative Learning programs.

The Vashon PTO is coordinating this fundraiser to provide:

• Repair and replace swings on the Chautauqua playground
• Tactile classroom materials, such as paper, for hands-on learning at Chautauqua Elementary (elementary kids go through a lot of paper!)
• Scholarships so more students can participate in McMurray's beloved 8th Grade Exploratory Week
• Art & outdoor elective class supplies at McMurray, such as ceramics, paints, and mountain biking supplies
• Funding for Vashon High's Safe Grad Night so that more seniors can attend this safe, sober, and spectacular graduation celebration
• Classroom & office supplies, such as paper and white-board markers, for VHS
• Funding to add to the tutoring program at Vashon Student Link, which supports 9th-12th grades
• Enrichment workshops for Vashon FamilyLink's kindergarten through 8th grade

A 2023 survey of teachers found that nearly 97% of teachers purchase classroom supplies out of their own pockets, with the average amount spent at $673 per year (American Association of Educators). Vashon PTO wants to make sure our amazing teachers get the support they need so that buying supplies like paper and markers out of their own pockets is not necessary.

We also want to make sure that all students can participate in Vashon traditions like Safe Grad Night and 8th Grade Exploratory Week. Twenty percent of 8th graders at McMurray qualify for free or reduced lunches, making the cost of Exploratory Week nearly impossible for approximately 30 kids.
