The Black Birth Archive Preservation Circle is a community of people committed to helping preserve, protect, and share Detroit’s Black birth history.

The Detroit Black Birth Archive documents the stories, people, places, and traditions that have shaped Black birth and maternal health in Detroit. Through oral histories, archival research, photography, filmed interviews, exhibits, and community storytelling, we are creating a record that belongs to our community and can be passed down to future generations.

Your recurring gift to the Preservation Circle helps make this work possible.

Funds support the real costs of preserving this history, including filming and photographing oral histories, compensating storytellers, renting spaces for interviews, digitizing and storing archival materials, producing community exhibits, conducting historical research, and maintaining the Archive’s growing collection.

This is more than a membership. It is an investment in Black memory.

Preservation Circle supporters help us make sure the stories of Detroit’s Black mothers, midwives, doulas, birth workers, families, physicians, nurses, advocates, and community leaders are not lost.

Whether you give $5, $10, $25, or more each month, you become part of the community helping build an archive that can live beyond all of us.

Help us preserve the stories. Honor the people. Keep the history in our hands.
