BIMS is dedicated to fostering innovation within the global marine science community. We empower scientists, students, and professionals through cutting-edge research, educational programs, and collaborative initiatives, ensuring that our community's voices contribute to the future of our oceans.

BIMS was born from a recognized need for greater representation and support for individuals and communities in marine science. Founded in 2020 by Dr. Tiara Moore, BIMS began as a grassroots effort to connect and uplift marine scientists. After the harassment of Christian Cooper, the need for #BIMS was evident. It started with a tweet from Dr. Tiara Moore and grew to a team of organizers putting together an online event.  Dr. Moore envisioned a space where talent could flourish, collaboration could thrive, and many perspectives could drive innovation.​

How it's going: ​Over the years, BIMS has grown from a small network to a global community, expanding its reach through impactful programs, research initiatives, and strategic partnerships. We've established ourselves as a leading voice in advocating for more STEM in our communities, particularly within the marine science, bluetech, and ocean conservation sectors.
