Bennett Legacy Initiative

Our nonprofit became official this year, and since March, our board has met regularly. After months of exploring partnerships with NGOs, none proved a good fit. So we created our own nonprofit—rooted in family and supported by former students like Wegheyu, Futie, and Sisay, who continues to help on the ground.  With Sisay’s help, we’ve budgeted Phase II: installing infrastructure to power 40 computers in a room that currently has no electricity—estimated at $7,000 USD, funded by individual donors like you.
Having raised the Phase I money ourselves, we are hoping to be eligible to receive grants for Phase II which will include restoring the room itself—lighting, desks, whiteboards, cabinets, and repairs—also estimated at $7,000. Once Phase Two is complete, we’ll source refurbished computers and raise funds for teaching materials and training.

The lab will be dedicated to Jim and Elaine Bennett—not just as a tribute, but as a living bridge between generations. A commemorative plaque will honor all who helped bring it to life—a quiet testament to what’s possible when people come together across time and continents to invest in learning, dignity, and hope.
