The goal of this fundraiser is to help Blitzen, a beloved Belgian Malinois known for his sweet nature, who faced a sudden health crisis when a lump appeared overnight, evolving into a complex medical mystery. Blitzen was diagnosed with endocarditis, which is an infection of the heart, and doctors believe it stemmed from a wound near his tail. When the wound culture came back, it was determined that it was due to E. coli.

Blitzen had to have most of his tail amputated so that they could use the skin for a graft to cover the large wound area on his back. He suffered a couple of setbacks this week, which will require another surgery or two to repair the area that was affected. Hopefully everything will go smoothly, and he can go home sometime next week. But that means more time spent at Tufts, where he's been for about two weeks already.

His moms Ashley & Becca have already spent $6,500 at one vet, and $30k at Tufts. They have maxxed out all available financial resources, and were prepared to sell their house if necessary. They are facing at least another $10k in bills due to the prolonged stay, and Blitzen will need follow-up visits to monitor his endocarditis.

There are only a few people I trust to watch my own pups, and Ashley & Becca area part of that single-digit group. Ashley has trained two of my dogs, and has helped many rescues as well.
